MarLiCaWhat's my story?
When I was in 4th grade, our class was asked to put some broken tiles (mine were yellow) on a terracotta vase and and then finish it with grout. It was then that I realized that I can create something beautiful with my hands. In 6th grade, I was asked to paint a religious image, a bunch of grapes next to a chalice for a Eucharistic celebration. That was when my inner creativity revealed itself to me. Ever since, I have that magical feeling when I am doing art. I took up Bachelor in Science Major in Biology, I was awed at the details of every leaf I drew in Botany, the intricacy of every plankton and the resiliency of microbes. Later, in Medical school, I saw the beauty of Anatomy. Yes, I became a doctor! But art did not leave me, even if it is more distinguished ( for some people) to be a Physician, art stayed in my heart and in my head. It did not feel right that I was not pursuing my creative dreams. One day, as I was browsing through a bookstore, a candle making book caught my eye and that is how I got so interested in candle making, It became my hobby while I was practicing as a doctor. It seemed that a different direction in life was there and no amount of resistance can change it. I went into art candle business,a highly creative and trade. I was joined by my husband and together, we poured our heart and soul into it until it flourished. I was was then free to direct some of my time to teach the children around my community how to draw and paint. I taught whatever I knew. back then. I founded the Lipeno Youth Art Club, Teaching became part of my life while I continued my art and entrepreneurship. I was given the opportunity to study Fine Arts in one of the best Universtities in the Philippines and I took it. I learned more and met the most inspiring teachers and mentors. Life is full of mystery and surprises. Now I have the MarLiCa Art Gym, I will continue to be an art advocate and enjoy a beautiful life while sharing my space to artists young and old. Come and be a part of our wonderful journey! |
I believe that every community should have have a place where people can exercise their creative skills. Children can come and discover themselves, teenagers can hang around and channel their energy towards purposeful endeavors. Here, working people can relieve their stress within. and retired senior citizens can have more meaningful days and still feel productive.
I also believe that our lives are intertwined and being a mentor to people, both young and old who are in need of guidance can keep the community strong and united. The members of the Lipeno Youth Art Club tend to be more responsible and highly effective wherever they are. Lastly, I believe that everyone can find their purpose in life if one can find out what they are passionate about. I hope that the MarLiCa Art Gym can be the place where people can discover themselves and experience happiness. |
